Invader Zim

A latecomer, as always, to the hot new cartoon trends, I’ve just discovered the joys of Invader Zim. Kevin taped a wad of it for me, six hours of Zimmy goodness, and I’ve watched the pilot and three episodes so far. Very funny, weird, and dark. “Dark Harvest”, the one with the organs, in particular seems like the sort of thing I’d never expect to see on a kids’ network, which may explain why Nickelodeon is cancelling it. The Cartoon Network might have been a better fit.

It also looks like a very expensive cartoon to produce. Lots of sweeping movement, requiring heavy background rendering, and the backgrounds are pretty detailed. Lots of distinctive background characters. The movement in general is pretty smooth. And lots of lovingly detailed action sequences, with stuff unfolding and lighting up. Fun to watch, but it can’t be cheap.

I have about three tapes worth of Zim now and I think 4 t-shirts and the lunchbox and the stickers and the ... oh wait, that sounds pretty pathetic.

I love Zim and I dearly wish Nick would get it's head out of it's butt and do the right thing by it. I've heard all sort of rumors. The latest that I've heard is that Nick actually decided to keep Zim. As for me, I'll believe it when I see it and keep my eyes peeled for any episodes that come on just to make sure that I have 'em all.

I -don't- however, have the organ one! Any chance I could wheedle you into making me a copy of it? We could swap? I could send you some episodes in return? ;)

I have but the one VCR, so I can't make a copy of Kevin's tape, and Kevin wants the tape back eventually. I could ask him to run off a dupe.

Speaking of episodes of cartoons about big-headed people, Meems, did you ever see the rest of the Powerpuff Girls rainy-day episode?
