Da Vinci's Notebook

Got a brand new musical jones — Da Vinci’s Notebook (link not currently working), an a capella band into very weird and geeky humor. I’ll be lending the CDs around. I’m currently listening to their song about Ally McBeal to the tune of Bob Dylan’s Like a Rolling Stone. (Currently ripping MP3s to hard drive for future listening convenience. Hm, that probably gobbles battery life, better go get adapter and actually plug this puppy in. OK, that’s better.) I encountered them at their show at the Knitting Factory last night.

I wasn’t sure if I was going to like them, but they came highly recommended by local filk fans, and hey, it was an opportunity to meet cadhla. (Yay!) I wound up following the crowd back to Queens and staying over the night at the home of batyatoon and sdelmonte, along with ladymondegreen and Cadhla (who turns out to be more interesting asleep than most people are awake).

Today was full of hilarious raven stories, mutual examining of sketchpads, discussion of books and comics, singing (I just listened), jokes, and potato-leek soup (which only exploded a little).

I’m still buzzing. Y’know that feeling? But I’m also looking forward to a night in my own comfy bed, and doing a much-overdue laundry tomorrow. (And now I’m listening to the Meat Loaf pastiche.)

I saw them perform last year, I must agree they are quite good. My favorite song being the Irish drinking ditty.

That was good, but "Three Little Words" (the Meat Loaf pastiche) had me doubled over with laughter. Mr. Loaf was a big part of my teenage soundtrack.
