[ supernixon ] Man, the weather’s getting hot and sweaty.

Went into Manhattan for comics, took [livejournal.com profile] cadhla, brief diversions for ferrets and exploding pens. Handed her off to [livejournal.com profile] ladymondegreen, met [livejournal.com profile] womzilla and crew for dinner, then off for NYRSF, and a nice long chat with [livejournal.com profile] tnielsenhayden.

[ demon ] New Finder out this week, revisiting the protagonist of Mystery Date, and an old Scott McCloud trick. Also new Cerebus, double issue, first issue of last story-arc; sadly, it’s still not comics, so I’m not buying it. Also got Alan Moore’s Writing for Comics, and the first volume of TokyoPop’s Under the Glass Moon.

[ happy ] I’m getting the hang of using these gray brush markers sort of like pencils. The one up top is something from last week, a fragment of an idea for a comic strip, Nixon as a supervillain. These other two are from today. Chris, seeing the one on the left, asked why my characters always look so sad, so I did the one on the right.

Chris feels obliged to quibble

I said your characters looked glum, not sad. A slight difference.

Now that I think about it, you cheery guy's smile looks a wee bit forced, as per LMG. But I did suggest a manic grin, so it's not too far off base.
