Bored of no boards
May. 21st, 2002 11:12 pmIt’s also pretty darn easy to drop $70 on, um, watercolor and illustration board, two brushes (including one I‘d never seen before — a “cat’s tongue”), three pads, breakfast, and a CD.
I’ve been shopping at Pearl Paint for over a decade, but I find I can‘t recommend it anymore. Its inventory has gone to the dogs — the 3rd floor selection of illustration board has been largely empty for the past few weeks (and when I asked, I was told it’s been like that for months). I’ve heard that the store has a new (and sucky), computer-based inventory system; I’ve also heard that they’re having cash-flow problems. I don’t know which, if either, of these accounts for the problem, and I don’t much care; I just know that I can’t rely on Pearl to stock what I need when I need it.
My new favorite art store? New York Central Art Supply, on Third Avenue, south of 11th St.

Date: 2002-05-26 08:31 pm (UTC)New York Central doesn’t have a much better layout, and it’s considerably smaller, and doesn’t have the range of stuff (like craft supplies) Pearl used to, but what it does have, it actually has. (I picked up more canvas boards and a couple of brushes at Utrecht today.)
<hugs> back.
