Because I haven’t subbed to the CUGC mailing list, I didn’t get the news that Games Club had been cancelled, so I wound up taking a quick trip out to Union Square and back last night around 9 PM. On the way back I could feel the early stages of a depressive mood, and somehow I turned it back. The whole episode lasted maybe as long as it takes the Q train to cross the Manhattan Bridge (which is, by the way, my most favoritest stretch of the entire NYC subway system).

When I got home there was a message from the super’s wife on my answering machine. Gee, that only took eight hours! She said to call at his home number. So today I did, and he came up a few minutes later and looked the bathroom over, and then went upstairs and checked the apartment above mine. He said it looked like the ceiling would have to be torn out and a pipe fixed, which is about what I expected. The plumber will be over on Monday to check it out, and if that is indeed what needs to be done, the job proper will start on Tuesday. He didn’t say how long it would take, but it only took a few hours (once they got started) last time, so I don’t expect to be without a bathroom for a week.

Today’s been a pretty mixed day emotionally. I dragged myself out to Times Square to get tickets for tonight’s showing of the Cowboy Bebop movie, but it was sold out (as had been last night’s premiere showing). Fuck. That was the only thing the Big Apple Anime Fest was showing that I was interested in (I think they were also showing Perfect Blue, which is really good, but I’ve seen it twice already), and missing out on it was enough to call down the depression that I now realize has been circling for the past day or two, looking for a place to land.

I went across the street to the Marriott, and wandered around the NY Anime Expo to see if I felt like registering. It was a near thing. There was an hour long line to get into the dealer’s (or “merchandise”) room, which offended my sensibilities. And there wasn’t all that much going in the video rooms that I was interested in. And I wasn’t running into any of the people I knew who were attending. But I knew that if I just went home I’d sit and mope and get nothing done and wind up feeling worse, so I regged for the weekend. I got to see a bit of Gatekeepers, and I spent way too much time in the artists’ room, bothering [livejournal.com profile] kuronekogirl, whose artwork is much cooler than the stuff she’s posted to her LiveJournal. We pen geeked for a bit, and I assured her that she’d get into SVA. There weren’t many artists in the artist room, but they were all good, getting my envy juices flowing. Must make art! Hulk paint puny humans!

On the way out I think I saw someone I met at the MoCCA festival, but she was past before I really realized it.
